CHECK OUT THE MIAMI FLEA THIS WEEKEND!

The Miami Flea is a monthly arts-and-music event that’s a twist on the traditional flea market. The monthly event creates a stage for local musicians and crafters to be seen and heard. Vendors range from jewelry designers to vintage vinyl collectors and on-site poets.

The Flea has become an emergent monthly event. Every event helps create culture and awareness of the local Miami flavor. Each day is carefully curated and logistically coordinated by event producers Isabella Acker and Pola Bunster of The Prism Music Group.

This is a must see event and I encourage our readers to check it out!

WHAT IS “INTERIORSCAPING”?

We have talked to you about bringing the outside in but we haven’t named the design technique. Today we are going to talk to you about the background of interiorscaping and how you can use it as a design tool your home.

When choosing the right plants for your home you have to think about their upkeep and structural size. You also have to incorporate lasting color into you color scheme.

Plants and flowers can bring you a sleek, clean, minimalistic appearance.

Turning parts of your home into a mini-conservatory full of foliage isn’t exactly how interiorscaping works, but finding a fluid connection of plant and furniture is.

Interiorscaping is much more then just purchasing a new houseplant, but making nature blend with your home design interiors.

Timeless classics such as orchids and seasonal plants like poinsettia, kalanchoe and Christmas cactus do not always require soil and extract their nutrients from the air. Succulents are another self-sustainable plant with beautiful different tones and colors.

Interiorscaping the right way can ad a glorious dash of color into your home and help ground you with nature at the same time.

DESIGN INSPIRATION OF THE WEEK: DAVID BOWIE

This month it was extremely unfortunate that the world lost a hero forever. David Bowie was not just a music legend, but also a fashion and design icon. He was a troubadour and a visionary when it comes to pop culture since 1960’s!

Today I am going to highlight some of Bowie’s most memorable moments in fashion and design through out the years to commemorate this star.

Pictured above as his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, Bowie’s androgynous look became a defining image of the 1970s. His face painted with a pink-and-blue lightning bolt for the Aladdin Sane album cover is also one of the most enduring images of the musician.

The shoot for the artwork was directed by Celia Philo and photographed by Brian Duffy at his studio in London’s Primrose Hill, with makeup by Pierre La Roche.

Above is one of the outfits by Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto were used during the Aladdin Sane tour. These included patterned knitted one-pieces and billowing capes, but the standout garment was the striped body suit.

The black costume’s wildly exaggerated silhouette expanded out at the legs, forming curves that were emphasized further by the pinstripes.

Many of Bowie’s iconic glam-rock looks were created for his appearances as Ziggy. Paired with his bright red mullet, the musician used face paint and makeup to exaggerate his androgyny.

During gigs and photo-shoots in 1973, a golden sun was applied to his forehead, while metallic eye shadow and bright red lipstick added to the drama.

As you can see David Bowie was shaking things up in the art world way before Lady Gaga came long. I respect his work and his music and his artistry will love on and keep inspiring more and more.

ADVICE FOR NEW HOME OWNERS READY TO DECORATE!

There comes the time in everyone’s life where they settle down with a partner or even a friend. Whether it is your first apartment or house you are decorating there are some important things you should think about before diving in.

Today I am going to share with you some advice for those new home decorators out there!

Embrace the serendipity: It is impossible to decorate your first home perfectly especially when it comes to your interiors. You will have a mix of furniture from the co-inhabitants and not all of it will match each other. You will simple have furniture with function not purpose or aesthetic. But this is exactly how it should be! You learn what you like to live with, not just what you like in a picture.

An accent wall is your best friend: You don’t have to paint the whole room. One wall is all you need to give your room that spark or pop of color. There is always a simple fix if you want to change your color scheme with a one wall paint job.

Friday is move your furniture around day: Since living in a new space can run your mind with options, you should try a new arrangement every other week! Sometimes the most unanticipated arrangements work the best. This is great way to decorate together and can be surprisingly fun!

You can truly accomplish a lot on a budget with a “can do” mentality. Wanting to make your home cozy and extraordinary is important to lead a happy life. Today I am going to show you a few ways to make change and refresh your home!

Put up a fresh coat of paint!
If you have furniture pieces you love, but know they need that upgrade, a fresh coat of paint is the perfect budget friendly solution! You can refinish wood furniture with a stain or gloss, or paint metal with acrylics. Paint dipping is a super cool trend to give your pieces a refresh as well.
