TIPS ON DESIGNING YOUR FIRST APARTMENT

After graduating college and locking down your first job there is one huge step onward toward adulthood. That big step is getting your first apartment.

Previously we have blogged about planning out your first apartment as a couple but now we are going to talk about decorating your very own place.

Whether you have a roommate or are living on your own, moving into your own place is a big deal that can come at a high price. Check out these budget friendly tips to make your first apartment décor affordable and fun.

Furnishings
Ask your family and relatives if they have any old furniture in storage. You might stumble upon some great antiques that are sturdy and durable. They may be a bit aged but you can use this to your advantage to build a rustic aesthetic in any room.

Decorating
If you are tired of looking at your bare white walls, and don’t feel your dorm room posters are making the cut to your adult life then you should take a look at these affordable art websites! Some rented apartments don’t allow renters to paint any walls, so think about interesting decals and funky tapestries.

DIY
There are a million do it yourself resources out there you just have to find the right ones! Try using Pinterest for affordable and manageable projects. You can also find unique ways to use your space and create storage.

HIGH END INTERIOR DECORATION INSPIRATION OF THE WEEK: GOLD

For todays high-end interior design inspiration we are going to bring you back to the rainbow but dive into the color gold!

Gold has always been a timeless color that depicts regality, elegance, and grace. If used the right way of course! With interior decorating it is important to use gold selectively to avoid anything gaudy and cheap.

The trick is to use gold to brighten and warm up a room. Treat gold pieces like jewelry and carefully place them and create a distinct stylized look.

Now I am going to show you this amazing gold spectacle called the Acido Dorado created by Robert Stone. The Acido Dorado is an internationally known new architectural icon that is both inspiring and an intimate place to be. It is located inside of Joshua Tree National Park in California and you can even rent this unique experience here on Airbnb!

This modern gold house is described at a loaded object that plays with your sense of normalcy within a living space. This avant-garde house exudes sumptuous fashion and beauty. Like a fine piece of jewelry you can live in that doesn’t follow normal standards.

If you are out on the west coast any time soon take a look at the Acido Dorado and heighten your interior design and architectural senses. Embrace the gold.

DID YOU KNOW THIS FAMOUS COMEDIAN IS SLIM PALEY’S HUSBAND?

I’ve been singing the praises of high end interior design blogger Slim Paley for near on a year now. We’ve even traded a handful of mutually-complimentary Tweets.

So I was naturally interested when I came across her real name in an online discussion of some of the best high end interior design blogs out there.

Carolyn Espley-Miller.

Because I’m such a fan of her unique take on design, life, and art, I had to know more. So I did a quick Google search

Turns out that at the dawn of civilization (the 80’s), Slim/Carolyn was a model who appeared in the video for KajaGooGoo’s new wave classic “Too Shy.” Eventually she met an SNL cast member and rising star of the comedy world.

His name was Dennis Miller.

That’s right, that Dennis Miller…the Weekend Update guy and present-day political firebrand.

If that’s not a power couple, I don’t know what is.

Congratulations to Dennis for finding such a great match!

High-end interior design inspiration can be found across the globe. Today I am bringing you to Great Britain for your muse.

We are going to take an inside look at the rainbow pavilion at the Serpentine Gallery in London’s Kensington Gardens and the current design trend.

There is a growing trend in the design world of the multihued color, known as iridescence. This installation expresses how color can change your perspective on various pieces and objects in an opulent way.

You can find many of this amazing color inspiration bloom inside of the rainbow pavilion at the Serpentine Gallery.

This iridescent color can be used on glass panels of a lamp, and can be paired with brass and earth tones on various home accessories. The reflective nature of this natural rainbow is very dynamic and unique. Oil slick and sunsets also can represent the iridescent rainbow is various ways.

STUDENT ARTISTS CURATE EXHIBIT IN MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT

Here at Interiors by Steven G we love to watch our young aspiring interior designers and artists learn and grow. Luckily in Miami we are fortunate enough to have great opportunities and programs for our budding students in the local area.

We have discussed the YoungArts Foundation in past posts and we are excited to announce what the Locust Projects has brought to our Miami Design District this summer.

Locust Projects is non-profit exhibition space that is devoted to providing contemporary visual artists the liberty to experiment with new ideas. This program supports the local community through educational initiatives and is free to the public.

Miami-Dade County High Schooler’s have been giving the amazing opportunity to create and display there artwork this summer through the Locust Art Builders Program. 20 artists are participating this year and have created showpieces that are being seen from July 11th until August 8th.

This art exhibit plays with Miami stereotypes. Mentors work with the students to enlighten them about the world of being a professional artist.

This program is a great opportunity for young artists to flourish. Spread the works and catch this exhibit before it’s gone!

You can read even more about the exhibit here.
