THE PUBLIC FACE OF HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN

Interior design is usually an invisible art form. When high end interior design is done best, a home has the appearance of simply being the result of the homeowner’s exquisite good taste.

However, it is always fun when we see one of our own make their way into the public eye. That’s why I always pay attention to what Nate Berkus has to say…in a lot of ways, he’s the public face of our profession. Plus, he’s Oprah’s buddy.

Take a look at his latest interview on Vanity Fair here.

THE BEST HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGNERS IN THE WORLD

On this episode of DesignTV With Steven G., we take a break from talking to Miami’s real estate power players in order to shift the focus to our own team of high end interior design superstars.

HALLOWEEN: THE ULTIMATE INTERIOR DESIGN HOLIDAY

We spend all year thinking about how to make the interiors of people’s homes appear more beautiful and luxurious. There’s an element of costuming in our profession…taking something made of steel, glass, and wood and dressing it up for maximum effect.

So it should come as no surprise that I love Halloween. In many ways, it’s the day when everyone becomes a bit of a decorator.

Happy Halloween everyone!

A NEW TAKE ON THE PSYCHOLOGY OF INTERIOR DESIGN

Our blog is called The Psychology of Design for a reason.

We’ve always been big believers that quality interior design and decoration goes far beyond simply having a pretty home. The colors, light, art, and items you surround yourself with don’t just reflect who you are as a person; they can help you become the best version of yourself.

That’s why I was so intrigued by a recent article I came across about a new course at Seminole State College that teaches parents of autistic children how to make interior decoration choices specifically designed to make life with the disorder easier.

Now if that’s not an endorsement of interior design, I don’t know what is.

MIAMI REALTOR SEES HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN AS BRANDING

The latest episode of DesignTV With Steven G. was especially fascinating to me. In it, I discuss all kinds of topics with Miami real estate legend Michael Neumann, but there were two in particular that really got me charged up.

One, he was the first of our guests to shine the light on a luxury development in Miami being bought primarily by Miamians. Two, he had a truly interesting take on the role of high end interior design and decoration in the world of luxury real estate.

Watch the episode to see for yourself.

WHAT IT REALLY TAKES TO BECOME A HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGNER

Sometimes I like to take a break from blogging about the luxurious results high end interior designers can achieve, and instead focus on how members of our tribe acquire the skills to create such magic and what leads to their success in the industry.

That’s why I loved the latest Jennifer Adams column so much.

In her latest article, Adams tells one aspiring interior designer what it really takes to become a professional.

FAREWELL TO A LUXURY ICON

We’ve always held that luxury is more a way of interacting with the world than any one specific thing. So even though we specialize in high end interior design, we couldn’t help but be profoundly moved by news of the passing of one of the true innovators of the luxury lifestyle.

Oscar de la Renta was one of the most successful and prolific fashion designers of all time…responsible for outfitting First Ladies, movie stars, and everyone in between.

Mr. de la Renta may have left us but his influence on anyone who loves luxury will live on.

TOMMY HILFIGER REINVENTS HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN

World famous fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger likes to move every few years…mainly so he can try on a new interior design style for size.

Lucky for us, this time he picked Miami.

His new home in Golden Beach is somewhere between Art Deco and Austin Powers, and it’s 100% fabulous. Rumor has it that Tommy oversaw every aspect of the interior decoration process himself.

THE HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN OF THE FUTURE…TODAY

In this episode of DesignTV With Steven G., our friend David Frangioni of Miami’s Audio One tells us how new technology is changing what’s possible in high end interior design more quickly than ever before.

INTERIOR DESIGN VS. INTERIOR DECORATION (AND WHY IT MATTERS)

The interior design and architecture magazine Freshome released a great article about what it takes to become an interior designer, high end or otherwise.

While the post seems to be written mainly for those thinking about pursuing a career in the field, it also offers a wealth of knowledge for anyone making decisions about the interiors of their own homes or offices.

Some of the things you’ll find…

  • The difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator.
  • The real important stuff an interior designer needs to worry about (not always the most fun stuff).
  • What laws and codes you have to think about when getting your place designed.
  • Why high end interior design should always be about the clients’ style, not the designer’s.
