WATCH STEVEN G. TAKE THE ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE IN MIAMI

You knew I was going to have to do this eventually. But my own daughter!

I got word this weekend that my little girl Lyndsey Gurowitz (some of you may know her as CFO of Interiors by Steven G.) challenged me to dump a bucket of ice water over my head for a good cause…raising money for ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Fortunately, I got to do it in my bathing suit speeding down Miami’s Intracoastal in my yacht. But still…whoo was it cold!

Now it’s my turn to throw down the challenge. Grant Cardone, you’re up. You too Kelly Arison. And of course I can’t forget my team of high end interior designers and decorators at Interiors by Steven G. I can’t wait to see them with ice water all over their heads!

ANOTHER TALENTED INTERIOR DESIGNER HITS THE MIAMI SCENE

After you’ve been somewhere for 30 years, it’s exciting to see everyone else discovering it.

That’s one of the reasons I loved finding out about the work of Isabelle Peribere, the former executive who is now trying her hand at high end interior design.

Her new interior design firm does most of its work in Miami and New York. One of her more recent high profile jobs is a collaboration with renowned architect Max Strang on a modernist home that sits right on Biscayne Bay.

You know how we feel about taking your influences from wherever you find them. So if you’re in the process of making your own interior decoration decisions, be sure to take a look at the work of Isabelle Peribere for inspiration.

WHAT DOES THE MIAMI WEALTH REPORT MEAN FOR HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGNERS?

In the annual Knight Frank Wealth Report, Miami was ranked as one of the two of the most important global city’s to the world’s wealthy (the only other North American city on the list was New York).

This confirms something I’ve known for a long time — Miami is the 21st century city. The place where the new global elites want to start things, spend time, move to.

As a high end interior designer, this trend naturally presents a whole universe of opportunities. Not only is it a chance for decorators to get lots of “mover and shaker” new clients (which is always nice, of course), but it also increases the diversity of ideas and influences we can all draw from.

Color me excited!

OUR PARTNER IN (HIGH END INTERIOR) DESIGN

You may remember an interview from not too long ago we conducted with high end audio genius David Frangioni from Audio One.

The interview ended up being one of our most popular and widely shared blog posts of all time.

Fortunately for us, this genius is our partner in our new Miami Beach design/furniture showroom.  Between the luxurious pieces and his state-of-the-future home studio equipment, you can find every last piece of your high end interior design puzzle.

OUR SUNNY ISLES SHOWROOM IS ON FIRE

Since our new Sunny Isles showroom opened a few days ago, it’s been on fire. We’ve been fielding visitors and friends, morning, noon, and night.

While our main Pompano Beach showroom spans 100,000 feet and shows every possible high end interior design combination your home could possibly need, the new place on our sliver of Miami Beach is different. It’s smaller by design and features furniture and adornments to accent and improve your home. And unlike the main showroom, you can walk out with individual pieces.

Because we’re so excited, we’d like to offer you something special. Give us a call to set up an appointment to stop by and check it out and we’ll give you a free interior design consultation.

We’re at (305) 621-5550. See you soon!

WHAT ARE HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGNERS?

We spend a lot of time on this blog exploring what high end interior designers do but haven’t talked as much about who high end interior designers are?

The visibility of interior decoration is at an all time high. Between the popularity of channels like HGTV and the ability of anyone with a computer to start a business, there have never been more people working at the craft of improving the insides of people homes and offices.

This is a good thing. I love to see people’s creativity flower and I love entrepreneurship. I also think there’s room for all different kinds of interior decoration and design.

That said, high end interior designers are a different breed. In fact, an interior decorator isn’t even allowed to call him or herself an interior designer without certain certifications and training.

But it goes beyond that.

High end interior designers have the unique ability to get inside the head of a client and to deliver exactly what they have always imagined luxury to be. High end interior designers have an extensive knowledge and sensitivity to the materials, colors, and fine touches that comprise that luxury. And high end interior designers deliver an experience throughout the process that is as luxurious as the end result.

Being a high end interior designer is no better or worse than being any other kind of interior designer or decorator. It’s just different. Recognizing the differences when deciding who to work with can have a lot to do with whether you end up getting what you want in a home.

OUR NEW MIAMI BEACH INTERIOR DESIGN SHOWROOM IS OPEN

I usually use this blog to comment on the greater high end interior design community rather than making announcements about our business.

But this time I’m just too proud to keep my mouth shut.

After a whole lot of hard work, our brand new boutique showroom is open in Sunny Isles, Florida. It’s a beautiful space located on an exclusive strip of Miami Beach. This doesn’t replace the other locations…it’s just us continuing to grow and do more of what we do.

Please give us a call and set up an appointment to check out the new showroom. Whether you’re a reader, viewer, customer, or potential customer, I’d love to see you.

Here’s the information:

A MIAMI INTERIOR DESIGNER REJOICES AS MIAMI REAL ESTATE CONTINUES TO BOOM

As a Miami interior designer, I have to keep a close eye on the Miami real estate market. Its movement has as almost much to do with our business as the selection of colors and fabrics.

Luckily, I never get bored.

Back in 2008 nowhere felt the real estate crash that brought down the economy more than Miami. Now 6 years later, no real estate market is more on fire.

Miami is currently the number one real estate market in the U.S. There are a lot of reasons for this, but one is the influx of money from buyers in other countries — mainly Latin America and Russia. Economic success in formerly developing nations has caused wealthy newcomers to invest in our hometown.

What I personally love best about this trend is the new explosion of influences in the high end interior design world. When you regularly expose yourself to people from diverse countries, cultures, and continents, creativity just soars.

HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGNER GETS IN A SPAT

It’s not everyday that a member of the high end interior design profession gets featured in TMZ, so when it happens I definitely have to comment on it.

You may know high end interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard from Bravo’s “Million Dollar Decorators.” He’s well known for doing the interior decoration of the homes of celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Aaron Sorkin, and Cher.

Apparently, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon is not impressed. She recently sued him…and won…for $2 million, claiming shoddy, low quality work.

The resulting feud made the pages of everyone’s favorite Internet tabloid.

I admit I don’t know Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s work very well, and there are (sometimes) two sides to every story. That said, this latest beef does remind me why I’ve always adhered to my philosophy that when high end interior designers do a great job the first time around, it usually ends up being a lot less trouble.

EDGAR ALLEN POE: HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN CRITIC?

Edgar Allen Poe was a lot of things — inventor of the modern short story, poet, alcoholic, horror writer, madman. But did you know he was also a prominent critic of high end interior design?

Poe had very strong opinions about what made for quality interior design versus design that fell on its face. He wrote about his ideas regularly in pieces like “The Philosophy of Furniture” in Burton’s Gentleman’s MagazineSmithsonian Magazine recently published an article about this little known aspect of Poe’s life.

According to Poe, the most high end interior design came from England and the worst….from America.

We’ve come along way since those days. Considering that the U.S. was a rugged frontier and Miami was nothing more than a swamp, who could’ve blamed him for failing to predict that we’d eventually be leading the high end interior design world?
