OUR FAVORITE HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN BLOG INTERVIEWS JILL KARGMAN

We’re feeling lucky this Monday! It usually takes the ladies at Quintessence a little while to put together a new episode of their show “At Home,” but a new episode is available less than a week after the last.

For anyone interested in luxury and design, you’ll want to watch Jill Kargman in action. Helping high end interior design come to life is all about being exposed to the best ideas from the best places, and this New York/Nantucket legend is all about creative ideas. Dig in and enjoy!

MIAMI DESIGNS A NEW BASKETBALL STRATEGY

Everyone in Miami has been biting their nails since LeBron James broke his contract with the Heat and declared free agency after their loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals.

But it’s looking more and more like that’s part of our hometown team’s strategy.

A lot of people are saying we lost as badly as we did because we had no one good enough on the bench. If the King can re-sign with the Heat with a lower salary, it could free up some space under the salary cap for some great new players to help us win it all next year.

(By the way, if it seems weird to you that a high end interior designer like your truly is spending so much timetalking about basketball, then you haven’t learned by now how much I love our Miami Heat.)

Here’s a link to a story that seems to confirm my theory on all this.

MIAMI INTERIOR DESIGN MEETS JAPANESE STYLE

We’re such big fans of incorporating Japanese influence in our interior design choices, that we even had Japanese custom furniture designed for our showroom. Japan and Miami may be far apart but that’s exactly what makes it all work together. It’s only by looking outside your own immediate frame of reference that true creativity and beauty bloom.

If you’d like to start incorporating some East Asian influence into your South Florida interior design choices, Working Home Guide has just put out an extremely helpful style guide to Japanese design.

WHAT DOES ESTEE LAUDER’S GRANDDAUGHTER KNOW ABOUT HIGH END INTERIOR DESIGN?

It’s not unusual for people who appreciate high end interior design to jet between Miami and New York regularly, and the Hamptons is high up on the list of most popular destinations.

That’s one of the reasons the latest episode  of At Home with Susanna Salk and Quintessence is so special. In it, Estee Lauder’s granddaughter Aerin Lauder, a remarkable talent in her own right, gives us a tour of her home (once owned by her famous grandmother) along with a bonus tour of the lovely town of Southampton where it’s located.

Pay special attention to her leopard print couch.

MIAMI INTERIOR DESIGN’S BEST KNOWN STYLE IS STILL HOT

Almost a century after Art Deco hit the scene, people are still talking about it.

While the Art Deco style of interior (and exterior) design took the entire nation by storm in the 1920’s, it is in Miami that it has made the most lasting impact (next to, maybe, the Manhattan skyline of course).

Most notable is the Art Deco architecture of South Beach, but examples of this streamline, stylish school can still be found on the insides of some of Miami’s most famous buildings (although many of them were gutted an renovated in a more “modern” style).

Even after all these years, I get excited when I learn something new about this wonderful design style. Apparently, there are a lot of people still as interested as I am, since people keep on speaking and writing about the wonderful world of Art Deco.

For a great place to start, check out “A Brief Guide to Art Deco Interior Design“.

MIAMI INTERIOR DESIGNER ELECTED TO IIDA

A well-deserved congratulations to Marlene M. Liriano of Miami-based architecture and design firm HOK for being elected to the International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA) Board of Directors.

Every professional interior designer and decorator knows the IIDA well…it’s our premier trade group. It helps us learn the newest and greatest developments in our field and to meet other great interior design innovators as well.

So we couldn’t be prouder of Marlene, a South Florida native and great designer in her own right.

It’s a great day for Miami interior design.

MIAMI GETS A LITTLE BETTER EVERY DAY

As interior designers in Miami, we naturally get excited when anything happens to the landscape of our hometown that makes it even more exciting to live here than it already is.

So you can imagine how thrilled we are that Miami-Dade County has stuck a deal to renovate Dolphins Stadium.

Miami just keeps getting better and better every day, and we’re loving it.

WHY THESE BROKENHEARTED MIAMI INTERIOR DESIGNERS HAVE REASON TO HOPE

Our hearts are a little bit broken around these parts.

We’re huge Miami Heat fans here, and our loss in the Finals this year was hard to take. Luckily, there’s hope for the future of Miami basketball.

The University of Miami is currently recruiting star high school basketball player Jaden Newman. At an average 14.8 points and 7.5 assists per game, she’d be pretty awesome for any high school player.

But here’s the kicker…Jaden Newman is only 9 years old.

Could this be the future LeBron James? I for one hope so.

OTHER INTERIOR DESIGNERS YOU NEED TO WATCH ONLINE

One of the best things about blogging is that I’ve found out about so many other talented interior designers and interior decorators. Not only is there a lot of great work out there, but many of these artists are also taking their creativity online.

Recently Flooring Hunter put together a list of the interior decorators you should be following on Twitter. They run from high end to DIY to everything in between.

I’ve found the list to be a helpful tool to stay up to date on what some of the greatest minds in the industry are doing. I recommend you do the same.

THIS IS WHY YOU’LL NEVER HAVE A HIGH END ROBOT INTERIOR DESIGNER

Grant Cardone nails it once again.

Ever since he moved to Miami and approached us about doing the interior design and decoration for his new home, we immediately hit it off and became fast friends.

Besides the fact that I just like the guy, he’s one of the smartest voices out there on the science of success. What he talks about applies to every area where it’s important to shine, and high end interior design is no exception.

In his latest blog post, Grant talks about the worry people have that technology will take away service jobs. But really, it’s lackluster, couldn’t-care-less service that’s in danger.

No machine can ever replace the distinctly human ability to go the extra ten miles.

That’s always been my philosophy of interior design. While Autocad and whatever interior design apps and machines are on the horizon are eliminating some functions performed in our world, truly high end interior design is based on the care that only a living, breathing craftsperson can provide.

Just the way I like it.
